Nueva Onda Artists Workshop
Cordoba, Spain

Summary
Dealing with the question of the diversity in the housing, the studio ‘Cordoba Contemporanea » offers to design a residence for artists staying between six months and a year in the Spanish city, to produce and exhibit their work. On one hand the building has to meet the needs of the artists in terms of work and living spaces. On the other hand, it works as a display of the artistic production, in the neighborhood listed at the UNESCO World Heritage since 1984.
Facing this sensible situation, the relationship with the environment varies. Along the river Guadalquivir, the building follows the topography to be read as part of the landscape in order to preserve the panorama drawn by the Roman Bridge and the Mosque on the other side. The “new wave” softly evolves toward the street, taking literally its distances to fulfil its own identity. Each curve is an invitation to penetrate the building and discover the art in process….
